Teaching
Let’s Talk About Mouth Cancer make it a priority to educate the professionals of the future. We run annual teaching events with undergraduate dental students at the University of Dundee and undergraduate dental therapy students at the University of Edinburgh. We take an interactive approach with students and the teaching we deliver is based around interactive workshops. Our role as trustees is simply to facilitate these workshops and help students improve their confidence in their ability to diagnose oral cancer and to make timely and appropriate referrals to secondary care. We make use of tablets and a variety of audio-visual resources to enable this. The feedback from the students has so far been extremely positive with attendees describing the training to be enjoyable and effective. The students also claim improved confidence in their ability to identify suspicious lesions and discuss mouth cancer with their patients.
