The Team

We are 3 volunteer Trustees who are passionate about tackling Mouth Cancer and getting people talking about this disease. Read more about each of us below!

We couldn’t do any of our work without the support of our many volunteers! Thank you!

About Our Trustees

Trustee: Julie Cockburn

Julie’s mother was diagnosed with mouth cancer in 2021 and subsequently passed away in August 2022. Julie’s family had never heard of mouth cancer prior to diagnosis. Julie’s late mother Margaret went through a gruelling ordeal but never complained and was incredibly courageous and strong. Julie believes that Margaret would be pleased that her daughter has decided to become involved in the charity and hopes to continue to raise awareness and hopefully encourage people to check their mouths which could result in early diagnosis. Julie’s background is in Social Worker and is currently working as a mentor for a local University. Julie is keen to give something back to people in the community.

Trustee: Barbara Boyd
Mouth Cancer Survivor

Barbara, a retired PE teacher, is a mouth cancer survivor. She had never heard of it until 2019 when she was diagnosed with tongue cancer. Thankfully it was caught early and her treatment was successful though required significant surgery and rehabilitation. Since then, Barbara has been working tirelessly as our patient champion to raise awareness of the disease and also to raise funds for the charity. Barbara is a force to be reckoned with, and we are very lucky and happy to have her on board as she became a Trustee in 2020.

Trustee: Joyce Smith
